Artists Studio Tour

On Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29, 2012, make sure to take the RiverArts 2012 Artists Studio Tour. It's your annual opportunity to see original art and meet the artists who create it all over the villages of Hastings on Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley, Irvington, and Tarrytown NY.

For a chuckle or two, check out Dobbs Ferry resident Larry Blizard's wonderfully detailed drawings populated by animals or bananas standing in for human characters. Here's a preview: LarryBlizard.com.

Peggie Blizard, also of Dobbs Ferry, specializes in super realism, with paintings of flowers and still life that will have you looking twice to believe that they are two dimensional images and not the real thing: PeggieBlizard.com

Many more artists to discover!

Home from the City

Hastings on Hudson NY

It's comforting to emerge from the Metro North commuter train in Hastings on Hudson
after a long day in New York City.

First you see the street, as the train pulls into the station. Already you're back to a smaller-scale environment, with buildings no taller than three stories.

Then you step off and start walking, shaded by trees along the sidewalk, breathing in the fresh air, and enjoying an invigorating walk up the hill to town.

Hastings on Hudson NY
It's fun to sit on "the Wall" in front of the VFW on Warburton Avenue and watch the world go by. Especially on a beautiful summer day in Hastings on Hudson NY. Tra la.

The Waterfront, Waiting . . .

Hastings on Hudson waterfrontSo much potential still languishing on the Hastings on Hudson NY waterfront.

The incredible view of the George Washington Bridge in the distance to the south, the majestic Palisades cliffs, the always-fascinating mix of river traffic, from tankers, to yachts, to sailboats, to kayaks.

The ruminative peacefulness of waves lapping against the shore.

The empty, overgrown, fenced property, with faded railroad tracks embedded in the asphalt, a reminder of the site's busy industrial past.

Hastings on Hudson NY - A Hill Village with Good Views

There are so many scenic overlooks in little Hastings on Hudson NY. This view is from the steps of the Library, looking up Spring Street towards VFW Park. In the foreground is a sculpture by the late, well-known Hastings on Hudson NY artist Jacques Lipschitz.
